It's true that women's lives have changed enormously over the past 30 - 40 years, the three most important factors being the acceptability of divorce (as mentioned in the article) and single parenthood and, most importantly IMO, bringing up girls to understand they will need to have paid work for most of their lives.

However, greater choice has sometimes meant women taking on the burden of paid work, childcare and housework, while himself lounges around watching the football. For some reason, men seem more reluctant to step off the career ladder and spend some time at home cleaning the toilet and wiping up baby sick. Now why coudl that be, I wonder?
