It is a mistake to look at AK in simple left-right terms. But over Iraq the AK Party went against the wishes of the Turkish military and the US administration. It has also fought hard against the Turkish armies wish to cross the Iraq border in hot pursuit of the PKK, although it was forced to compromise on that.<BR/><BR/>It should not be forgotten that in the 1950s in Turkey when Operation Gladio was being set up throughout Europe, a conservative free market government was in power, whether this played any role I know not as the military brought it down in 1960 and hanged its leading member, so he never lived to tell the tale.<BR/><BR/>The problem with secret groups like the deep state is there appears to be a number of them separately operating throughout Turkey. I'd have thought that the linkages of this deep state would be with the ultra right, but is it possible that the more traditional state formations around the Army etc were also drawn in in a bid to prevent the progress of the AKP?
