Well said. I have lived in social housing all my life, apart from briefly when I was born until I was two and lived in a squat, and am amazed that people seem to look down on it for some reason. Surely social housing is the way all housing should be, rather than housing owned by the few rich and rented out at extortionate prices to those who cannot afford to buy? It makes much more sense for it to be communally owned and rented out at fair rents.
In central London where I live most of the housing is either council or owned by various housing associations and co-ops. I only knew two people as a child who lived in homes owned by their parents - everyone else I had ever met lived in social housing. This is completely normal in London and it had never occurred to me there could be any absurd stigma over it! The stigma should be on those who buy properties and use them rarely as holiday homes or who rent them out at market prices, keeping housing expensive and pricing ordinary people out of popular areas.
