Video reveals G20 police assault on man who died at London protest.

For some time I have felt in my gut that the UK police are more not less corrupt than in the past. What people like Ken Livingstone seem to ignore is that whilst the upper echelons of the police; and the more astute within the lower ranks have mastered the politically correct language and structures, that is all that has changed. When it comes to policing the street, they revert to type and the old ways.

Far from being a thing of the past, the type of cliques that ruled the Metropolitan and regional police forces in the past, are just as prevalent and poisonous as they were in the 1960s-70’s-80’s. If you look at the make up of the special squads, whether it be the more mundane units like the dog handlers, traffic police, right through to the murder squads and the thugs that police ‘public order’ events, you will need to look hard to find Black and Asian faces or members of other ethnic minorities.

It amuses me when people complain about the alleged tyranny of political correctness, ignoring the fact that xenophobia and racism have become more blatant in recent years, not less, whether it be in the police or society in general. A black face reading the news, on its own does not make a healthy society.

Now it seems the police have also returned to giving people who get up there noses a good hiding, although unlike in the past when it took place behind a police station cell door. Today some officers have become so arrogant due to government support, they have taken to assaulting members of the public in full view.

Apart from his tragic death, the worst aspect of the assault that Ian Tomlinson suffered at the hands of the London’s police, was the way a number of police officers stood silent whilst a colleague assaulted Mr Tomlinson and then when they returned to the police station they stood firm and lied in unison about the brutal incident, despite knowing a man was now dead. As clear an example one is likely to see, of the canteen culture we have been repeatedly assured was a thing of the past.

The thing to remember is that policemen do not work for the good of the people but rather they work for the establishment to keep order! When that order is disturbed, they have no qualms about using force because their masters told them so.... I am sorry, but it is true for the police in the UK and everywhere else in the world for that matter... It would be a little childish to think that UK police was any different then Chinese police.... :)

As for the world becoming more racist over the last few years, I think we can thank Blair and Bush for that! Since '00, all the crack pots and racist pigs came out of the wood work due to the arrogant and racist manner of those 2 political administrations!

I agree with your take on the police completely, when push comes to shove the police will side with the ruling elite.

No better example of that is when in world war two, the police in occupied France became willing tools of the Nazis occupiers, even going out and arresting Jewish children, who were then set to the death camps.

Police make quite good fascists - one of the Waffen-SS divisions formed during the war, called Polizei, was largely recruited from cops. They were rather poor at fighting soldiers, but committed many atrocities in anti-partisan campaigns in Eastern Europe. Also, police battalions were formed, with many of the recruits being ex-cops, and some of them were involved in the Holocaust. Post-war, many of the survivors forged careers in the "democratic" German police forces. The historian Christopher Browning has written about the police battalions in some detail.
