UK politics is about the scheming and maneuvering of self centered, big business and ‘City’ approved, political elites.

The pound is rapidly going through the floor, the government believes it can solve the economic disaster it has jointly created with its pals in the City, by issuing powder puff statements about the wonders of the decisions made at the G20 conference; and the British army is becoming bogged down in Afghanistan, something even the stupidest student at Sandhurst fresh from public school would have foreseen.

Yet what has the UK mainstream media, including the broadsheets been full of over the last week, shock, horror, the British prime minister’s gofers spend much of their time smearing the bosses opponents.

If ever there is an example of Westminster navel gazing this is it, these fools believe if it does not happen within a square mile of Westminster, it is of no importance. At a time when the media should have been picking through the bones of the ‘agreements’ made at the G20, and demanding the head of Paul Stephenson, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, for sending out a video of congratulations to the very same officers who two days previously had removed their badge numbers and lost control of themselves when policing the G20 demonstrations.

Instead, the UK media has had a field day splashing around all week in the slime of personality politics. Great fun for some perhaps, but whether Draper, McBride or even Baron Mandelson goes down the political plug hole, will have little if any real impact on ordinary peoples lives, beyond that is bringing them a little light relief. For the Whitehall desks these creeps have recently vacated have already been filled by equally vile beings. (On Peter Mandelson, the press might have asked him why his department (BERR) has been passing on police intelligence files on environmentalist activists to multi national corporations like EON.)

Thus whilst blogger Guido Fawks correctly condemns the ‘lobby correspondents’ for conspiring with the political elite to keep the rest of us out of the political loop, in his rush to puff out his chest he conveniently over looks the fact that he does likewise. For he understands perfectly that the fate of bit part players like McBride and Draper is irrelevant; and Westminster’s politicians like their ilk throughout the western world, will continue to splash around in the personality politics filth they themselves have created.

For it is not only the Westminster lobby who collude in hollowing out political life. The corruption goes much deeper and wider than that. Whether it be Blair, Brown or Cameron, political life at Westminster is not conducted around ideas, but is about the scheming and maneuvering of self centered, big business and ‘City’ approved, political elites.

This is why you can hardly get a cigarette paper between the policies of the Brown government and the Tory opposition. The only differences between them is one of degree. Troops out of Iraq and into Afghanistan, bailing out the banks, attacking the sick and disabled who claim benefits, the environment, etc, etc. These political ‘Stepford wives’ have time and again trooped into the same lobby when voting in parliament.

What this means for the majority of the electorate is we are locked out of parliamentary politics, even though most of us hold strong views about what goes on there. It is worse than this, for unlike the majority of Labour and Tory MP’s, the vast majority of the general public refuse to live in the imbecilic cocoon that our MP’s inhabit, which means we are not represented properly in the parliamentary process. True we may have an MP, but if he/she is a member of the ‘political elite’ or has hopes of becoming part of it. They will not represent the best interest of the electorate, for if they did they would loose any hope of advancement.

Thus we have ended up living in a country in which a million people can march against the war on Iraq, and have the majority of the country with them, yet their voices are dismissed out of hand by the Prime Minister and his cabinet.

A country in which the second most powerful man in the office of the leader of the opposition, David Cameron, is Andy Coulson, a Murdoch gofer and former editor of the News of the World, whose official title is head of communication, but who is in reality the head of the fearing and smearing brigade, just as under Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, creatures like Damian McBride and Alastair Campbell held that post.

Rather than exposing these peoples masters for the devious and destructive creatures they are, the mainstream media have been satisfied with periodically being thrown a sprat. For years they have colluded in the political elite's attempt to move political ideas and debate off the national agenda, to be replaced with shallow, nasty or gushing personality politics. It is high time we stopped shoring these people up; and turned upon them; and in the process became the mouse that roared.
